This week, representatives of just about every country in the world are gathering for the 30th global climate-negotiating session, or COP30. The U.S. won’t be sending its President or any other high-ranking officials to offer encouragement. On the contrary.

In a recent speech to the United Nations, President Donald Trump called climate science “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world,” and he has set himself against all efforts to limit warming, at home and abroad. He has cancelled dozens of clean-energy projects (including some that were mostly finished), forced coal-burning power plants due for retirement to remain open, and gutted the agencies that monitor changes to the oceans and atmosphere. And he’s bullying other nations into following suit. 

Worldwide, every other week seems to bring a new climate-related crisis. The fact that global temperatures are supported by local farmers who track weather through generations, to increased climate related disasters. That in turn affect insurance and other cost of living such as food prices.

The followers who believe the nah says verbal evidence instead of looking around and seeing the goings on is absolutely insane.

Well the global north keeps voting in right wing governments that don't care about Climate Change so we have to hope China properly leads the was as per the article. 

My country voted in a right wing government and we didn't even send a reprentative to COP30 and missed all our goals these last years, from being a frontrunner. It was clear when we put an uneducated 25 year old as Environment Minister.

Technology is progressing faster than political solutions. It is silly to make costly sacrifices now when all the charts points towards cheap solar and batteries. 

Chinese electric cars are already cheaper than us made gasoline cars. We are probably within a decade to the point where it will be cheaper in 99% of situations to buy electric. 

Political solutions have basically no impact anyway if China and India don’t collaborate.

It was asked a hard task to change societies and when the green protesters then took to the streets to fuck with private people they lost what little support they gathered by the common folk. 
They could've gone for the rich, the industrialist, those responsible for large scale damages, but they chose to block people commuting to work, resulting in those to get stressed, perhaps lose their jobs and whatnot without that making any dent into the environment, perhaps even worsening the situation by causing massive traffic jams where people kept their cars running off course, AC and music and whatnot. They could've gone for the rich, but I didn't hear all to much about protestors blocking yachts and private jets and golf courses or the likes, but I heard of the same people vacationing on tropical islands and shit while shouting at the local butcher that he, personally, is the source of great evil and destroys the environment. 

I've also had a green protestors camp in my city one summer. I saw how their campground looked before and afterwards and the loads of plastic trash they left behind. Everybody could see even they didn't give a fuck but just wanted to be annoying.


Is it really a surprise that support for that movement died down with the current, oh so loud, wars and crisises? Especially if you consider that places like USA, China and India would never consider going even a bit green if it'd hurt profit?

Carbon emissions have fallen considerably in the rich world, including the U.S. over the past 20 years. Meanwhile they are still rising in places like China and Brazil. Sure you can make an argument that the rich world should do more because of their historical emissions or just the good of the planet, but his argument seems disingenuous.
